ALBUM PREMIERE: Trebuchet Soar With Rich Harmonies and Poignant Songwriting on ‘Volte-Face’

The four members of Trebuchet didn’t have to stray far from their home base of Petaluma, CA to find one another. The quartet originally met met while attending music school at Sonoma State University, and four years later – in 2010 – they decided to form a band. Throughout the time they knew each other before forming Trebuchet, the members of the band worked on various musical projects together, forming a chemistry that comes across crystal clear in their upcoming second album, Volte-Face, which comes out on April 14th.

The album captures four friends and musical comrades aligned in rich harmonies, poignant songwriting, and lush, powerful instrumentation. Volte-Face translates literally to “about face”, which in this case reflects the two years of drastic change in the life of lyricist Eliott Whitehurst that inspired it. The group counts boundary-pushing indie rock acts like Bon Iver, Death Cab For Cutie, and Sufjan Stevens among their influences, and these can be heard throughout Volte-Face. That being said, this collection of songs finds the members of Trebuchet constantly building a heartfelt sound that is different from anything else out there and entirely their own.

Today Glide Magazine is offering an early taste of Trebuchet’s new album with an exclusive premiere stream.

Adding his own insight to the songs on the album, Eliott Whitehurst says:

We spent the better part of a year writing this album and then another half of a year recording it. As a band, we wanted to be sure that the type of music we were writing was the type of music that we’d want to listen to ourselves. We challenged ourselves to not funnel our sound into any one category but to let it really be a representation of where we were as a collective. Lyrically, we pushed ourselves to not shy away from topics and subjects that we found difficult or scary. Personal loss, fear of self harm or harm done by a loved one, realizing that the path you’ve been following for the last decade might not be the right one are all themes that had been undercurrents within our lives leading up to the writing of this album. We wrote, produced, and recorded every sound that you hear through these 10 songs and we’re both terrified and elated to finally be sharing it all.
