7th Annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies Features Never Before Seen RFK Stadium 7/12/89

In recognition of what would have been Jerry Garcia’s 75th birthday, friends and fellow Dead Heads will be able to simultaneously commiserate and celebrate in cinemas nationwide for the 7th Annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies.

Similar to last year’s offering, likewise distributed by Fathom Events, this special one-night event on Tuesday August 1st features the band’s complete, never-before-seen performance at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. from 7/12/89.

The concert features a rare first set containing at least one tune sung by each of the four lead singers and a terrific show-opening rendition of the band’s biggest hit “Touch Of Grey. ” The second set, meanwhile, begins with a very uncommon opener, “Sugaree,” two songs on which Bruce Hornsby sits in (“Sugaree,” and “Man Smart [Woman Smarter]”), plus one of the only video recorded versions of “Black Muddy River.”

Similar to last year’s showing of a performance at Sullivan Stadium in Boston during the same summer tour, this will constitute 2017’s second Meet Up at the Movies, a series begun in 2011. The previous function this year was held on 4/20, but rather than the customary unveiling of rarely-seen footage, nationwide screenings of “The Grateful Dead Movie,” were held to coincide with the near-simultaneous archival release of the legendary concert Cornell ’77.

Fathom Events’ website offers advance ticketing purchase options including the means to find a participating theater.
