SXSW Announces Second Round of Films for 2018

Hot on the heels of last week’s initial SXSW film announcement comes even more great news from the Austin festival. Now celebrating its 25th year, SXSW has some exciting things in store for festival goers this year

The second round of announcements included the unveiling of this year’s Midnighters lineup. Exploring films with more of a genre twist, including an eclectic array of horror, sci-fi, and just plain weird films. Highlights from this year include Hereditary, which recently caused quite a stir at Sundance, and the North American premiere of the Martin Freeman starring Ghost Stories, which follows a paranormal skeptic who gets in over his head while attempting to debunk a new haunting.

Also announced was the closing night film, Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs. Anderson’s latest stop motion work has been garnering a healthy amount of buzz since the announcement last year. This will mark the film’s North American premiere, just before its release on March 23.

You can check out the full lineup of new announcements here. As ever, SXSW seems to have curated a wide variety of films from across the spectrum, giving lovers of film plenty to pick from when the festival kicks off. SXSW hits Austin starting March 9 and goes through March 18.
