SONG PREMIERE: Sam Weber Balances Rock Cool and Throwback Pop on “It’s All Happening”

Sam Weber is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in the vein of Jackson Browne, The Band, The Wood Brothers, and Gillian Welch. Years spent refining songs at home in British Columbia, Canada, attending Berklee College Of Music, and working in studios in Los Angeles have honed Weber’s craft to a fine point. With two LPs already released, Shadows in the Road (2014) and Valentina Nevada (2016), Weber released an EP, New Agile Freedom, in 2018, which features the track ‘Ex-Lover’ -named by Bahamas as the best song of 2018 on The Strombo Hundo yearly countdown. Sam is set to release a 3rd full length studio album in 2019.

Sam boasts a relentless tour schedule, splitting most of his time between the road and the studio over the past few years. A busy tour schedule has already taken him and his band across the globe over the past couple of years.

Today Glide is excited to offer an exclusive premiere of “It’s All Happening”, a song off Weber’s soon to be announced new LP. With its rhythmic, driving, energetic blend of folk and blues influences, the song exudes an effortless cool. At the same time, there is an underlying pop sensibility that brings to mind artists like Dawes and Marshall Crenshaw who aren’t afraid to make catchy tunes. This kind of balance between guitar-driven rocker cool and infectious pop is a rarity these days, and when encountering an artist like Weber one should savor the listening experience. It’s also interesting as he seems to nod to the 70s and 80s work of artists like Paul Simon, yet the tune feels refreshingly modern.

Weber describes the song in his own words:

“’It’s All Happening’ is a mantra that Terra Lightfoot and I started saying to each other. It means that everything is happening as it should, everything’s going according to plan. The song captures a feeling of a city buzzing with life; like a hive-mind, beholden to a collective purpose.”
