Are Foo Fighters Preparing A New Album For 2020?

To have become an important band is one thing. To mark a generation and celebrating your 25th anniversary as a group that’s won the hearts of their public as well as numerous awards and recognition from the whole music industry is something else completely. A few days ago, frontman of the band Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl twitted about the milestone saying:

“Holy Sh*t!!! 25 years?!,” remarking. “Thank You guys for being with us year after year … for singing along and making every show the best night of our lives.” Adding, “We’re JUST getting started, so … Buckle Up, 2020… it’s going to be an INSANE year full of some seriously crazy shit.” As was noted by Loudwire.

On the Tweet they attached a +30 second clip of guitar riff that takes us to the harder version of the Foos. They’ve done the same a couple of times, teasing their fans since January 1st with clips of their new music. They’re supposed to release it this year, as they tagged the tweets with #FF2020 #FF25.

Dave Grohl always has something to say, if you differ, ask the attendings of Rock in Rio last September, as he yelled at the audience “I don’t know when we’ll be back down here again, but we will”, Grohl told the crowd. “We go home next week and we start making a new Foo Fighters record. It’s good, it’s good.” And was picked up by NME.

But last fall, before all of this blew out with the starting of the celebration of Foo Fighters 25 anniversary. Taylor Hawkins did an Interview with Loudwire, praising Dave Grohl, calling him a “Creative God”.

The drummer continued to hint over the changes and what could come in the new record of the band. “We’re in such the fetal stages at this point, it’s hard to say what the direction of that thing would be, but we’re chugging along and Dave’s certainly got a lot of f*cking ideas, that’s all I can say,”

He then said… “The guy is a f*cking creative god. He is. He never stops, and he’s just got such conviction and faith in whatever he is working on. There’s never any second-guessing with Dave, and I really respect that about him. I’ve learned so much from that f*cker, and I just continue to.”

The story behind the 25 years of successful history for Foo Fighters is a very famous one, as Dave’s was still overcoming the death of grunge star, friend and bandmate from Nirvana, Kurt Cobain.

The musician was in Seattle when he started playing and recording music by himself, and the word and some of his cassettes with recordings went around, getting some recognition and attention from different labels. On July 4 came the first album, in which he played all the instruments and sang, only having external help on the song “X-Static”, by someone who was in the studio during the process.

The band took off as Dave released the album under the name Foo Fighters, not clarifying it was Dave Grohl who made it. Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam´s vocalist had kind of a radio show and played one of Grohl’s songs, and the calls from labels started coming in hard.

Then came the band as it is, Nate Mendel, current bass player, then drummer William Goldsmith, and guitarist Pat Smear who he knew from touring with Nirvana. During problems recording their second album The Colour And The Shape, Goldsmith left the band, being replaced but Taylor Hawkins, who at the time was the Drummer for Alanis Morrisette during tours.

The current formation of the band was completed after Chris Shiflett joined them while recording There’s Nothing Left to Lose around 1999. It all started 25 years ago, when the Houston Rockets were winning the title and dominating the NBA expert picks. They haven’t won a title since then, but the Foo Fighters have released 9 albums since then. Feel old yet?
