WATCH: Grateful Dead ‘All The Years Live’ – “Loose Lucy” Orchard Park, NY 7/16/90

This week’s “All The Years Live” release takes another look at the red hot July 16, 1990 concert from Orchard Park in upstate New York (the fourth time this show has been chosen for “All The Years Live”) with a blistering take on the Garcia/Hunter gem “Loose Lucy.”

Debuted in 1973 and recorded on From the Mars Hotel the following year, this spunky rocker immediately became a concert regular with several dozen performances between its initial appearance and the band’s “retirement” in 1974. The seemingly forgotten tune laid dormant for well over a decade until it’s triumphant return during the group’s legendary 1990 Spring tour when the song reclaimed its rightful spot as a welcome first-set regular with nearly 100 total performances through 1995.

This performance is a strong late-era rendition with some inspired playing & vocals from Garcia. It also marks the final version to feature Brent Mydland and his trademark Hammon B-3 sound as the talented keyboardist passed away less than two weeks after this concert.
