Angelo Moore of Fishbone and his project Angelo Moore & The Brand New Step (Ropeadope Records) has teamed up with Bay Area producer Jim Greer (Foster the People, Geographer, Rondo Brothers) and legendary West Coast MC Del The Funky Homosapien and put together a fight-the-power funk anthem called Rebellion. Also featured on the track are Claude Coleman Jr. (Ween) on drums and “Hash” Ashish Vyas (Thievery Corporation) on bass guitar.
As a founding member of Fishbone, Angelo’s status as an innovator and musician with wide-reaching influence is firmly cemented in the pantheon of American music.
With the Brand New Step, Angelo has been carving new paths, working and performing with a range of forward thinking artists such as DJ QBert, Butterscotch, Boots Riley (Sorry to Bother You), Galactic, and more.
Through two full length releases and a handful of singles via Philadelphia’s seminal Ropeadope Records, Angelo and his Brand New Step have toured the United States several times and traveled to Taiwan and Japan, bringing a full on Angelo experience backed up by an ace band and a slew of original songs.
“Rebellion is about fighting back and was inspired by the Sioux Indian tribes’ attempt to gain back their land from the US government that was forcibly installing a pipeline across the Missouri River, their rightful Sioux tribal territory. The organization that goes by the name “EARTHJUSTICE” engaged in a battle against the authorities until they won and the judge shut down the project discontinuing the pipeline project. This re-iterates in a quote from the song, “It’s a rebellion – it ain’t a truce”. I also wanted to get Del to collaborate with me on this matter because I felt that Del being a rebel with a cause would be perfect for this song and his opinion on the matter..” – Angelo Moore
