LISTEN: Willow The Cat Serves Up Vibrant Collaborative Indie R&B Via “Peach”

Willow the Cat is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, singer and rapper, Eric Thompson.

Thompson was formerly the frontman of FLOTUS, a college band whose vibrant style catapulted them to the top of Syracuse University’s DIY-scene alongside artists like Charlie Burg. His solo project, however, centers around a form of artistic expression more in-tune with his diverse set of influences.

In true Gemini fashion, Thompson thrives in duality. His brand of hip-hop embraces elements of jazz, soul, and R&B while inviting in flavors of psychedelic rock. His process is paradoxical, shifting between lighthearted and dark subject matter, and teetering between masculine and feminine energy. “Peach” kicks off a series of singles that aim to showcase the full range of Thompson’s musical ability.

Check out the new lo-fi pop single “Peach” from Willow the Cat. With an effervescent vocal charm, Thompson and guest singer Julia Goodwin both sing sly and soulful tenderness. A solid groove sparkled with warm guitar tone and tasty synthesizer tinting, “Peach” is a sharp and poignant R&B infused collaborative track

“Peach” is a love letter to a long distance lover that reminisces on the past and yearns for the future. The single contrasts the introspective, abrasive energy of past releases and introduces a new side of Willow the Cat. “Peach” was written with warm elements of R&B and indie pop, which further accentuates his romantic lyricism. Julia Goodwin complements the song with background vocals all throughout and an epilogue to conclude the song.
