John John Brown has discovered part of the mystery that surrounds a great Americana songwriting tradition. On Brown’s debut album The Road, we see a collection of forthright and creative songs, fueled by Brown’s rich vocals and captivating wordplay.
“A few years ago, while I was at a teaching seminar a Holocaust survivor told me his story. During our conversation, he let me hold the yellow badge that the Nazi’s made him wear. He told me that his mother sewed the edges tightly together because she didn’t want it to fray. He was an amazing man, and I tried my best to put his story down in song,” says Brown.
Check out the finely crafted Americana track, “Yossi the Balloon Man” – a story-telling highlight track from The Road. Seeped in supportive piano color and tactile electric guitar musing, “Yossi the Balloon Man” is a graceful expression of American folk music that brings to mind the names of Harry Chapin, Arlo Guthrie, and Tim Hardin.
