Impassioned solo artist and Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan who was was one of the pioneers of the grunge scene and a purveyor of dark and introspective music with a renowned solo career died this morning (2/22) at age 57. Lanegan was extremely prolific in his solo output releasing many collaborations as The Gutter Twins (with Greg Dulli) or with Isobel Campbell or Duke Garwood. 2020’s album Straight Songs of Sorrow, lived up to its title, a harrowing—and riveting—journey through the singer/songwriter’s life, and a companion piece to his memoir, Sing Backwards And Weep. Marking of Lanegan’s passing with the below twitter post. It appears the curse of the fallen grunge area frontman, as Lanegan joins Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell, Andrew Wood, Layne Stayley, and Shawn Smith as singers from the emerald city that have passed too young.
