LISTEN: Grimson Steers ’70s Piano Rock Into Story Telling Dreamscape Via “Household”

Grimson, the latest creative endeavor by Swedish-American songwriter, musician, and animator Aiden Berglund, makes a most welcome return to Glide this week with the valiantly executed, piano-driven single “Household”. With an Elliott Smith pop sensibility along with a tastefully deployed string section, accents the driving piano and effective, drumming throughout; leaving plenty of space for Berglund’s airy and expressive vocals to tell their story.  Accompanied by a beautiful mixed-media animation video set in a Monty Python-esque dreamscape, “Household” is another audio/visual offering from Grimson not to be missed.

“Household’ takes the listener into an imagined desperate teenage domestic jailbreak. The song was inspired by two of Berglund’s close female friends who were heavily constrained and controlled by their domineering parents. The opening line “When I get out of this house, I will be my own,” refers to the captivity Berglun witnessed. He gives his friends a fighting chance in the final chorus of this imagined escape, singing “I can’t take my eyes off the horizon, ’cause I will be the first one off this island.”
