Robert Plant & Alison Krauss Kick Off Tour in Canandaigua, NY With Originals, Covers & Two Zeppelin Tunes

Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant and Country music veteran Alison Krauss kicked off a long list of tour dates last night (June 1) at CMAC in Canandaigua, New York. The collaborators are touring with JD McPherson and going across the country including some shows overseas. This is the duo’s first tour together in over twelve years.

The tour is to promote their 2021 album Raise the Roof, a 12-track bluegrass record. Their original 2007 collaborative work Raising Sand, was a landmark for the bluegrass genre and earned the duo several Grammy nods. Combining Krauss’s bluegrass roots and Plant’s knack for songwriting, their collaborations seem effortless and bring a new charm to the country scene.

Both projects feature a mix of covers and originals from Plant and Krauss, much like their setlist from last night’s gig. Their covers include songs from Plant’s Led Zeppelin days and other iconic acts like Benny Spellman, The Everly Brothers, and Little Milton. The encore included two songs, a cover of The Everly Brothers (“Stick With Me Baby”, which originally appeared on Raising Sand) and an original, “Can’t Let Go”, a standout from their latest effort.

Krauss and Plant have a big year of touring ahead of them. This show kicks off a string of U.S. dates before they head off on an international tour over the summer. They’re back performing in the states starting in mid-August to play across the west coast.
