Coast Contra has experienced a whirlwind of success since the top of the year. After a video of the quartet freestyling earned them viral status and a spot opening for Dave Chappell in Los Angeles, the Philadelphia wunderkinds made their national television debut on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Since the group posted their freestyle over J.I.D’s 2017 single “Never”, Coast Contra have been rightfully riding a wave of success. Since their debut single hit the internet in 2019, fans and critics alike have been enticed by the group’s ability to mix spirited deliveries with melodies reminiscent of early neo-soul. Following the success of their “Never Freestyle” (which was recently uploaded to streaming platforms as an official single), Coast Contra released their official debut album Apt. 505 in March of this year.
Adding on to their dominance of 2022, Coast Contra performed for the first time on national TV last night (June 20). They took the stage on Fallon to perform their famous “Never Freestyle” that eased into “Legacy”, another loose single the group dropped. Coast Contra’s stage presence is demanding and feverish, the same energy you hear from their recordings only doubles when performed live.
