WATCH: Run The Jewels Slay “A Few Words For The Firing Squad” On ‘Colbert’

The duo of Run The Jewels has been crossing genres with their avant-garde approach to classic hip-hop. Most recently they have been on tour with nu-metal forefathers Rage Against The Machine and released an instrumental version of their critically acclaimed 2020 album RTJ4 last year. Last night (August 10) El-P and Killer Mike stormed onto The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to perform “A Few Words For The Firing Squad” off of their aforementioned album.

The stage design was dark and simple, much like the track, they performed on it. A sole saxophone player stood in front of the DJ but behind the two rappers. The design allowed for the duo’s spoken word approach to the personal topics in the song to take center stage and forces you to listen to El-P’s tales of his childhood and Killer Mike’s trials dealing with fame.
