After a nine-year recording hiatus, New York’s Yeah Yeah Yeahs have made their graceful return to the spotlight with their new album Cool It Down. The 8-track LP is expansive and put together in such a way that its 30-minute runtime plays like a full movie. In celebration and promotion of their return, the influential trio took over Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night stage to perform their single “Burning”. With Kimmel taping his show in Brooklyn last night (September 29), it was the perfect setting for Yeah Yeah Yeahs to bask in their own glory.

When the Yeah Yeah Yeahs make an appearance, it’s inevitable that it is going to be something special, and their performance last night was no different. The set started off with an explosion as the camera turned from the crowd to lead singer Karen O standing atop a rock of molten lava, using the power of his flexible vocals to put on an unforgettable performance. The stage was bright red to match the sleeve of twinkle lights wrapped around the frontwoman’s arm. Guitarist Nick Zinner and drummer Brian Chase stood on either side of this mountain as they pounded out the single while the horns blared through the speakers.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have a short string of shows that are starting out at the Forest Hills Arena in Forest Hills, New York on October 1 before they head across the states for a set at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 6.
