No stranger to writing original songs for the stage, Dan Forsyth has been a full-time, touring musician for the last 12 years. Based out of Ithaca, NY, his main focus has been contributing as a founding member and singer/songwriter for the folk band, Driftwood. The band has toured nationally for the last decade and has crafted a style based on American Folk music.
Forsyth’s latest solo single “Diamonds” is a wistful and enveloping Americana arrangement that sits perfectly with diminished daylight recently brought upon by winter. Sonically warm and comforting, there’s raw quality shining through that that puts you in Forsyth’s living room as he’s writing it. Dan’s debut solo album, Friday Night Nowhere, is out now.
“Pretty much every song from this album came out of the pandemic. This one was inspired by a feeling I kept having during the Summer of 2020. After my family would settle down for the night, I would set up gear in my bedroom studio and record. It definitely helped me to balance out the anxiety brought on by everything happening at the time. I had a few ideas going but nothing on tape yet. I had this melody and chord progression kicking around but I needed a solid direction for it. One night, we had dinner from one of our kiddo’s favorite take-out restaurants called Diamond’s. Later on, I snuck downstairs and fired up the tape machine. I remember being overwhelmed..I think was just really feeling trapped. I started writing and it came together pretty quick. I recorded most of the track that night. I remember really liking the sound of it. It was the first song I recorded for the album and it became the sonic model for the rest of the songs,” says Forsyth.
