LISTEN: Dari Bay Nails Wilco Buzzed Songwriting On “Same Old Bumpy Road”

Right from the starting snare hits Dari Bay brings the energy up and leaves it there to ride out the two-and-a-half minutes of indie pop bliss that “Same Old Bumpy Road” has to offer. There’s such a well-loved pop sensibility to a song like this that it’s not easy to make it fresh, but Dari Bay does it well with tight instrumentation and a storytelling perspective rooted in his home state of Vermont. In a departure from some of his more experimental songs; this one is a phenomenal tip of the hat to 90’s indie bands like Wilco and Dinosaur Jr., and a welcomed reminder of warmer times in the depths of winter. “Same Old Bumpy Road” is definitely a candidate for ‘Best feel-good song of the summer this Winter.’ Check out the whole album “Longest Day of the Year” for more.

“Same Old Bumpy Road” is about trying to get lost driving through the Vermont countryside. Really it’s about separating myself, and the therapeutic effects that solitude can have especially as someone who spends a lot of time around other people. Driving is maybe when I feel the most unreachable. If I’ve got nowhere to be, why be anywhere?” says Bay.
