LISTEN: Eyesore Drop Angular & Rhythmic Instrumentation On “An Ideas Man”

Opening with playful tight rhythmic instrumentation from the whole band U.K.’s Eyesore & The Jinx express tongue-in-cheek solutions to modern problems on “An Ideas Man.” The tight bouncy composition lays the perfect foundation for the punchy delivery of lyrics. With a sense for strangely complicated navigation of life’s most mundane intricacies, there’s a nod to some Talking Heads influence. There’s a whole verse musing on subdividing their flat to rent it out that ends with “The devil isn’t just in the details; He’s woven into the carpet.” There are lines and lines of conversational absurdity you’ll just have to listen to appreciate.

“Inspired by the post-pandemic explosion of #propertytok, ‘An Ideas Man’ is about the cult of landlordism and a parasitic ideology that has become pervasive in its wake. It’s about exploitation masquerading as philanthropy and the pursuit of a passive income that has become celebrated rather than shamed. In short, it’s about how much I fucking hate landlords,” says the band.
