LISTEN: Post Punkers Brunch Bring On Angular Energy With “Computer Virus”

Raw punchy energy is the first thing that will drag you into “Computer Virus,” The debut release from VT young post-punk band Brunch. The tune hits musically and grooves based off the bat with a strong gained-out bass tone and spanky strained but undistorted guitar line. They give you a minute to settle in before hitting you with a heavy more familiar to the genre chorus but land back into the groove quickly. Dynamically, they’ve created a sound on this track that definitely jumps between an early Modest Mouse and the heaviest side of post-punk pioneers Refused. Phillip Bern says of their new album, “We saved up enough to record in two days and mix and master an album and now we’re broke again.” Well worth it.

“This song was written about feeling not in control of yourself because of addiction to drugs, social media, and just self-destruction in general. We were going for a James Brown meets Black Flag vibe with some synth thrown in as well to add some tech sounds and make it feel true to how shitty we feel as college students when everything sucks and social media is eating our brains,” says the band.
