LISTEN: Loryn Taggart Hits Jazzy Sweet Spot With Swingin’ “The Reunion”

Toronto’s Loryn Taggart presents us with a modern swing honey pot with her new single “The Reunion.” Rhythmically and vocally this song is heavily steeped in vintage sing jazz, but the production and instrumentation twirl it around a few decades. The drums are very modern and tight keeping the mix thick and ready for contemporary sound systems while there’s a 60’s synth sound reminiscent of Ray Manzarek’s Vox Continental lingering in the back of the mix for most of the song. Taggart sings of the difficulty she feels reconnecting with society, and it’s really all too relatable.

“I’ve found that The Reunion is especially relatable as everyone has emerged from two years of isolation; having to interact in ways that we’re not used to. Attending Christmas parties, live shows or dinners, or even starting to date again. Sometimes I feel like I’m starting from scratch socially like I forget how I used to interact with friends and then go home and I overthink things I’ve said.”
