After a successful run of singles through their new home at Colemine Records, The Ironsides are ready to make a full statement. The psychedelic soul band, which consists of a collective of musicians from San Francisco, has been maneuvering its instruments through the cosmos over at Colemine for quite some time with their first release through the label dating back to their 2013 double single. Now, the Californian band has announced their debut Colemine LP, Changing Light is set to release on May 19, and with the announcement comes a brand new single. “The Web” is our first official look into the anticipated LP and has The Ironsides at their creating a warping instrumental that oozes with soul and purpose.
The Ironsides’ debut album took nothing less than a village to make happen. The band brought in New York’s Louis Robert King to help create arrangements for Changing Light. Once their otherworldly ideas were flushed out, the band and King brought in a slew of musicians to help breathe life into their demos. The outcome is 8 songs that suck the gravity from the room and leaves you suspended with nothing to hold on to besides The Ironsides’ warping textures and masterful musicianship.
With the album now having a concrete release date, “The Web” attempts to prepare us for what’s around the corner. The latest single spans nearly 6 minutes and puts the band’s soulful approach to instrumentals on full display. The song plays like an old 70s noir film that features astronauts as mafia members, combining their personal worldview with nostalgic tropes from soul’s golden era. Changing Light will also feature the whimsical beauty of the title track, which was released as part of a double single from The Ironsides and Colemine in October of 2022.
Changing Light will arrive in its full glory on May 19. With gorgeous music and anticipation fueling them, The Ironsides feel more than ready to step out on their own and present their atmospheric arrangements with us earth dwellers.
