SONG/VIDEO PREMIERE: Helen Kelter Skelter Wears Psych Armor Proud On Feisty “Best Friends”

“A best friend is someone who will rescue you from being enslaved by a rock band to drive their VW bus,” says Chase Spivey, the director of Helen Kelter Skelter’s “Best Friends” new video. With a whirling dervish musical presentation that mixes up the fierceness of post-punk alongside treats of psychedelic mayhem, Helen Kelter Skelter will soon be making many new best friends: just don’t try and say this band name ten times fast.

Recorded in December 2019 at an undisclosed church in northwest Oklahoma City, Helen Kelter Skelter’s new EP Chroma Crawl showcases the band’s established wild-yet-tuneful style while still showing off new ways to keep things fresh.

Glide is premiering the song and video for the fierce “Best Friends,” (below) which shall end up as the band’s most potent live statement. Reflecting the modern psych nuances of Osees and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, the band is sure to earn a spot at the lofty Desert Daze Festival here soon.

“The song proposes a friendship that is fun, interesting and valuable but can also have its burdens. Feeling like a million bucks is a good thing. But one million dollar bills, while still pretty great, would also be cumbersome and hard to deal with. It would improve your life to have it, but would be dangerous to just walk around with,” says lead singer Eli Wilmer.
