The New Pornographers Kick Off ‘Continue As A Guest’ Tour At Asheville’s Salvage Station (RECAP)

With a return to form new album under their belt that was accompanied by widespread praise, The New Pornographers are taking the new music on the road. The band kicked off their Continue As A Guest tour in support of their new album of the same name last night (April 19) at Asheville, North Carolina’s Salvage Station. This string of shows comes after a busy 2022 for the Candian band as they toured for the better half of last year, and 2023 doesn’t see them slowing down anytime soon.

Although the band is hitting the road with 10 new songs from Continue as a Guest, last night’s setlist was equally nostalgic for long-time New Pornographers followers. They kicked things off with the live debut of “Really Really Light” from their 2023 effort and were joined by “Cat and Mouse With the Light”, “Last and Beautiful”, “Firework in the Falling Snow”, “Marie and the Undersea”, “Continue as Guest”, and “Pontius Pilate’s Home Movies”, which all also made live debuts. The rest of the setlist was filled with throwbacks, hits, and almost everything but Dan Bejar’s cuts from The New Pornographers. The band went as far back as their now classic debut album, 2000’s Mass Romantic, to perform the title track and “The Slow Descent Into Alcoholism”. The band then bounced around their 23 years of recordings to perform hits like “The Bleed Heart Show”, “The Laws Have Changed”, and “Bill Bruisers”.

The New Pornographers are taking this show across the United States in 2023. They will be visiting cities like Chicago (two nights), Detroit, Boston, and much more. This string of shows will take them into November of this year with a small break after their May 21 show in Saxapahaw, North Carolina.
