What began as the project of one disaffected culture journalist is now, some seven years later, a six-headed beast. Charles de Boisseguin had carved out a niche for himself as a respected journalist. As a critic, Boisseguin had a burning conviction that he could no longer disparage the works of others until he had a go himself. And so one beautiful spring morning in 2012 he made the jump and L’Impératrice was born.
Sink into the sexy atmospheric joyride of “Heartquake”, the blazing new single from L’Impératrice and CUCO. This effortless and pinpoint indie-pop expression is riddled with circular synthesizer tinge and radiating percussive color.
“It’s the story of someone completely disconnected from their emotions who is on their usual peaceful bus ride one morning. And then, someone sits across from them, and suddenly, their brain freezes, and they fall to their knees, struck by a thunderbolt, a kind of Tako tsubo. It’s a sensation that shakes them to the core, and they’re not sure if they can survive it, but they desire it,” says the band.
