LISTEN: Subway Rat Brings Raspy NYC Garage Rock Curiosity On “Summertime”

Born David Polanco on November 19, 1993, Subway Rat is an indie rocker from the borough of Queens, New York City. A few months after a rough, prolonged breakup with his college sweetheart and a life-altering late diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1, he wrote his first-ever song. It’s called “Rendezvous”. With no prior musical experience, Subway Rat has written dozens of songs since then in collaboration with indie guitarist and producer Paco Lee, along with multi-platinum, Grammy-winning engineers at Lounge Studios in Times Square. Fans describe his raspy voice, aggressive delivery, romantic storytelling, and energizing rock beats as an exciting mix of fellow NYC legends.

The world of pop-punk has seen a revival over the past few years with some of the genre’s greats coming out of retirement to relish the rejuvenated spotlight. Still, refreshing acts are making their own rules in the genre, Subway Rat’s rules are fearless and innovative. “Summertime” is a stand-out from the artist’s recently released “Captian of the Football Team” LP and is brimming with everything that makes Subway Rat so special. Chugging guitars welcome you to an off-kilter melody that crashes around in a burst of punk-influenced bliss.
