With the exception of Coachella or maybe Lollapalooza, has there been a more iconic and celebrated festival in the 21st century than Tennessee’s very own Bonnaroo? It’s certainly in the conversation, but whatever the case, given it’s slated to kick off this week, we dug up this classic performance by The Growlers from not too long ago (2015, to be exact).
And while nine years may not seem like a long time, it probably feels like a lifetime ago for The Growlers, who were peaking in popularity at the time but now have all but officially broken up due to a combination of internal strife/lineup changes, and ill-conceived/bush-league pranks. That’s a shame, considering they were one of the best bands to emerge from the last decade, at least in this writer’s humble opinion. Here’s hoping they get back together at some point in the future, but for now, we can at least soak in this positively groovy performance, which captures them in all their past beach-goth glory. Cheers to the return of Bonnaroo, and hope for a Growlers reunion “Someday”:
