The Velvoids are an experimental rock band formed in Athens, Greece in 2003. Their discography consists of numerous albums, EPs, singles, and compilations, several of which have never been issued on digital format. The band has shared the stage with the likes of Marky Ramone, Murder By Death, David J (Bauhaus), Γιάννης Αγγελάκας (Tripes), Louis Kondoulis (Stress, Earthbound), Black Lips, Dum Dum Girls, Pierced Arrows, The Vibrators, Soft Palms, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre; while collaborating with Richard Lloyd (Television), painter Brian M. Viveros, author Nina Antonia, and producer Tom Biller.

There is a haunting beauty that echoes after The Velvoids’s “Lying On A Terrace” plays. It is almost as if a disembodied voice is inviting you to listen to the eerie falsettos and subtle ambiance just one more time. The slow-burning arrangement features muted drums that accent the spurts of electric guitars, creating a vortex of lush experimentation to get lost in. Miraculously, in their quest to find otherworldly sonics, The Velvoids landed in the middle ground between sinfully sweet dream pop and the deep corners of psychedelic rock. There is a nuanced fusion dance that drives “Lying On A Terrace.” The way the band blended memorable melodies with left-field sonics is a testament to the freedom The Velvoids share while recording. Over two decades in, The Velvoids continue to find solace in taking sonic risks, and their latest single showcases a veteran band finding ways to keep things fresh.

“The entire upcoming album, which includes ‘Terrace,’ was tracked at home during the initial lockdowns of 2020, took a few years to revisit the recordings and ultimately finalize everything,” explains the band. “It’s just us going at it amidst a world of confusion we’ve come to know so well.”
