Originally from New York, Story Charlemagne presents a fusion of Indie rock and folk, married to a retro soul voice. Spending three years in the southern United States, North Carolina, was pivotal in cultivating his voice and stage presence. The first single off the debut album SUM Therapy is “Holding These Pieces (HTP),” and it is out now.
Charlemagne’s latest single blends stunning soulfulness with bluesy guitars and vulnerable songwriting. The artist successfully fuses his wide-ranging influences with his refreshing perspective for a taste of his Southern roots. While many genres shape the sound of “Holding These Pieces,” it is how the artist manipulates those elements that evoke that magical feeling. Rather than take tones from multiple genres, Charlemagne thinks deeply about every last detail. Rather than mirroring his environment and musical heroes, the artist studies them and pulls from the nuance of their artistry. The result is an intoxicating combination that shines a light on Charlemagne’s poetic songwriting as “Holding These Pieces” introduces us to a fearless artist.
“I don’t believe that everything’s fine…the first lyrics sum up a bit of a cynical look at the state of things,” explains Charlemagne. “I do not think things are necessarily better or worse, but I want to acknowledge those feelings. ‘HTP’ explores these ideas and how the weight of everyday troubles can get quite heavy.”
