“It was the first song we initially jammed together where it felt like we had pulled on an interesting thread- the amalgamation of our individual styles. It ended up being the North Star for the direction of our record, the first song we demoed, and the first track in the album sequence,” says Nathan Trueb of Portland’s Another Glory about the powerful single “One Wing.”
The song is one of many musical conversations that bring two proficient instrumentalists together, reawakening appealing ideas that might never have been facilitated otherwise. The duo is composed of two Portland musicians José Medeles (drummer – who is also the longtime drummer of The Breeders, Ben Harper and Modest Mouse. He owns Revival Drum Show in PDX) and Trueb (singer/guitarist – also plays with PDX blues-rock band Tango Alpha Tango). Like Kurt Vile teaming with Courtney Barnett, a pairing of like-minded talents, the results are often surprisingly adventurous, as heard in “One Wing,” off their upcoming self-titled debut album, which Glide is premiering the song and video below.
“This is one of the first songs I heard from Nathan’s acoustic side of his playing. l instantly felt inspired to bring in some of my ambient atmospheric sounds. The goal was to wrap his picking and story in a weather system of sonics,” adds Medelis.
Another Glory” sounds like an extraordinary collaboration that blends the talents of two accomplished musicians, bringing in the expertise of guest contributors like Nels Cline, Ben Harper, and producer Steve Berlin. The project seems to have a raw and organic beginning, sparked by a spontaneous jam session after Medeles recorded him playing along to Trueb’s solo music. The chemistry between the two musicians was so potent that they decided to explore where their combined creativity could lead.
With raspy vocals and cinematic orchestrations, Another Glory has built the perfect “get your morning started” album, where the aroma of coffee puts possibility and ideas into the yearning creative mind.
