Little Walter Jacobs gained recognition from rediscovering the blues genre in the Sixties. And, like so many of his contemporaries, he deserved the accolades, even if the response was somewhat belated in arriving. From his earliest days as a recording artist in the late Fifties, the Louisiana native took a revolutionary approach to the harmonica, helping in no small measure to earn a position as a stalwart at Chess Records (as well as membership in Muddy Waters’ band). And the casual confidence Little Walter exudes in this performance of “My Babe” (with Hound Dog Taylor on guitar) renders his 2008 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a fait accompli.
