The Altered Hours are a 5-piece alt-rock group from Cork, Ireland. The band made their full-length debut, In Heat Not Sorry, in 2016, introducing the world to their sprawling approach that can range from moody, atmospheric balladry to blistering distortion. 2021 saw The Altered Hours return with Convertible, a more honed effort that proved this band can craft an original sound and stick to it for a full album. Their third studio album is set for release on November 7th.
“Turn Away” is the latest single from the upcoming release from The Altered Hours. The latest from the band’s self-titled effort is a blazing piece of shoegaze that dissects the genre, leaving behind only the parts the band deems necessary to get their point across. Instead of the vocals hitting you in a wave of lush bliss, they cut through the arrangement in a flurry of off-kilter harmonies that cascade on the chugging arrangement. The instrumentation here is equally as nuanced, with dense guitar riffs crashing into thudding to create energizing tempos and palpable texture. “Turn Away” is a detailed preview of what is promising to be a landmark LP from The Altered Hours.
