The artist talker has been running for a really long time. To what exactly? She can’t even answer that herself.

After releasing her debut LP I’m Telling You the Truth in 2024, talker––the alias of Los Angeles-based songwriter Celeste Tauchar––has spent the last year and some change grappling with the aftermath of that honesty. Documenting those sorts of very real conversations cracked something open for her, but on Runaway Jane, her new album out this summer, Tauchar examines what happens next: the moment where you actually have to take accountability.

Sometimes, it feels easier to run. But Runaway Jane reframes that fight-or-flight instinct and channels it into something on a collision course with endless possibility. It’s raw and unpolished, building up to intense moments of grit and emotion that match the sheer vastness of the west.

Tauchar previews her anticipated sophomore effort with a poetic yet relatable anthem dedicated to acknowledging a cycle and working towards taking the proper steps to break it. Under her talker moniker, the artist has never shied away from deeply personal writing, but on “Truck,” her empathetic voice evolves. Tauchar’s stunning writing is delivered with soaring care over heavy, hypnotic percussion and sleek guitar riffs. The infectious nature of the artist’s melodies soothes over the daunting realities explored in the lyrics, toeing the line between anthemic and introspective. Tauchar finds herself entirely comfortable in this middle ground, as she acknowledges the need to change without the typical self-deprecation that accompanies a mistake that will take a while to overturn. “Truck” is another exhilarating addition to the talker catalog and doubles as a preview of Runaway Jane, an album shaping up to be something special for Tauchar.
