Trey Anastasio in Princeton: Setlist

Tonight, former 70 Volt Parade vocalist Trey Anastasio returned to his hometown of Princeton, NJ for a rare solo acoustic show. The performance took place at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall within the campus of Princeton University. Anastasio was backed by the Scorchio Quintet.

Anastasio leaned heavily on material from 2004-2008, but also showed off new arrangements of old Phish favorites such as Divided Sky and Stash. Big Red even showed off his piano skills on Bar 17 and Wolfman’s Brother, though the Phish front man did move to guitar for a fun solo in Wolfman’s.

“Lifelong friend” Tom Marshall joined his old pal towards the end of the show to sing Strange Design. For the first song of the two-song encore, Trey debuted a song he wrote with Amanda Green called Julie that he had discussed with Relix during the summer. At the time, Anastasio expected to perform the song with Phish on the second leg of summer tour, but that never happened.

  1. Is there anything the Ayche-Tee does not have their ‘correspondents’ attend?

I can just see the HiddenTrack office now.

“C’mon boss! Seriously?! It’s a weekday and you’re sending me off to ANOTHER intimate, little, pseudo-private, orchestral concert with Trey in his hometown?”

someone’s got to do the dirty work!

  2. great show, my new favorite version of stash. other show notes: trey switched back to guitar for wolfman solos, and band intros.

new song julie is written with amanda green. this along with burn that bridge, and my problem right there are for the play there are working on

  3. Made the most of his opportunity to play in such an intimate venue. Wonder what will come of it. Definitely nice to hear Trey trying to perfect his music. It’s time to get some structure and narrow the perspective. Go for perfection. I’m a fan of perspective.

  4. Stash was so much fun, Wolfman’s was great, Trey really had fun with the ending. Anyone know where I can find a recording of the show?

  5. info on play

Hands on a Hard Body; the musical he is currently writing with Amanda Green which is based on the 1997 documentary film of the same name and tracks the story of 24 contestants competing in an endurance/sleep deprivation contest in order to win a brand new Nissan Hardbody truck, in which the last person standing with his or her hand on the truck wins the vehicle.

  6. scotty b – sorry i missed you there! i thought the audience was generally respectful (quiet) and added a lot to songs like stash (which was probably the coolest song of the night – tom even gave it a shoutout, mentioning how trey was always searching for the perfect versions of songs and got it with that and divided sky, i think). brian and robert was beautiful, as was let me lie. another tidbit to come out of the show – trey and tom wrote ‘glide’ right outside the venue and used to sing it to passersby. there were even a few empty seats there!
