Pullin’ ‘Tubes: The Music Never Stopped

While the Sundance Film Festival is traditionally known as the place where indie filmmakers go to “break” their movies, get financing and find distribution for a wider audience, it also has a music component as bands head to Park City, Utah to perform at showcases and screening parties. This past February, Grateful Dead/Furthur  guitarist Bob Weir took part in the fest by playing a special acoustic set in support of the new movie The Music Never Stopped, whose soundtrack prominently features the music of the Dead, alongside the likes of Bob Dylan, Donovan, Crosby Stills & Nash and more.

The powerful and emotional looking movie, which is due out on March 18, is “based on the case study ‘The Last Hippie’ by Dr. Oliver Sacks, M.D. (“Awakenings”), and chronicles the journey of a father and son adjusting to cerebral trauma and a lifetime of missed opportunities. Through the music that embodied the generation gap of the 1960s, the film weaves the heartwarming progress of Henry and Gabriel’s relationship.” Let’s check out Weir’s acoustic take on the movie’s namesake, The Music Never Stopped…

  1. Such a fun movie. I have only cried at three movies:

    1) This movie
    2) Miracle
    3) Weekend at Bernie’s 2

In all seriousness, very touching and found myself identifying with the father-son dynamic in a way that was all too uncomfortable to admit.
