Allman Brothers Band @ Beacon – Night Four – Bernie Williams Sits In

Two New York City institutions came together again tonight when former New York Yankee outfielder Bernie Williams sat in with the Allman Brothers Band at the Beacon Theatre. Tonight’s performance, part of the band’s annual March Madness run, was the first concert broadcast live in the 40 year history of the MSG Network.

Bernie first guested with the Allmans at a Beacon show on April 7, 2007 when he sat in on Who’s Been Talkin’. Williams came out towards the end of tonight’s first set and laid down one impressive run of notes after another on, once again, Who’s Been Talkin’ to huge cheers from the New York crowd.

Gregg Allman sat out Who’s Been Talkin’ as John Ginty (Robert Randolph, Blind Boys of Alabama) took over keyboard duties. For the second set, Ginty returned along with saxophonist Bill Evans for a cover of Miles Davis’ Spanish Key. Evans stayed out for the run’s first Soulshine, which saw NYC scene fixture Josh Dion spell Jaimoe on drums. The heavily jammed out second set ended with lengthy versions of Black Hearted Woman, Rocking Horse and Les Brers In A Minor.
