Deaner The Fisherman: Mickey’s Fishing

We’ve mentioned Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo’s love of fishing many times since Hidden Track was started five years ago, so it should come as no surprise to our readers that Deaner is now a fully licensed fishing guide who gives tours aboard his 23-foot charter boat, The Archangel.

Melchiondo was profiled for an excellent feature in The Star-Ledger that’s a must-read for Ween fans. Deaner doesn’t wear Ween t-shirts or even make much mention of his musical career, because how the hell do you describe Ween to someone who’s never heard of the band?

“I don’t tell anybody I’m in a band,” says Melchiondo, 40, of New Hope, Pa.

“It leads to a lot of questions that are uncomfortable to answer. ‘What kind of music do you do?’ ”

We’d love to hear his answer to that query. Mickey offers a slew of different guided tour options through mickeysfishing.com. We’re approaching bottom fishing season, so over the coming months Deaner will take customers out from the marina in Belmar, NJ to find fluke and sea bass. For $600 he’ll take up to three people out on the Archangel. Not too shabby for the chance to fish with a rock star.
