Bob Dylan is one of the most covered artists in rock history. It almost seems as if a band hasn’t “earned their stripes” until they cover Bobby D. Dylan is the king of simple but effective tunes that are ripe for interpretation. One of those tunes is You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere, a beautiful little ditty that was actually released by The Byrds before Dylan got his version out.
You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere was first recorded by Dylan and The Band in 1967 during the legendary Basement Sessions. The Basement Sessions weren’t released to the public until 1975, but bootleg copies made the rounds among artists. The Byrds recorded their own version of the song for Sweetheart of the Rodeo in 1968, starting a trend of bands covering You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere. This week the B List compiles 20 great versions of one of our favorite Dylan tunes.
Read on for You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere covers by the Counting Crows, Phish, New Monsoon and 16 other acts….

As they say in Elaine Benes’ office, “Get well, get well soon, we wish you to get well.” A hearty “Get Well Soon” goes out to Mark Karan, who will be unable to join RatDog on its summer tour due to a lump on his neck that may or may not be cancerous. Karan will be replaced for an undetermined time period by Steve Kimock. As expected, Grateful Dead fans seem to be excited for KimDog, as evidenced by the SummerStage show selling out yesterday. Hopefully Kimock won’t bail on the tour after a few shows like he did to Phil Lesh in October of ’99.
And looky here, we’ve got plenty of other links to keep you busy:

Former 70 Volt Parade lead singer Trey Anastasio has confirmed he’ll be releasing a new album entitled the Horsehoe Curve on July 24th. As we previously reported, Horsehoe Curve is an all-instrumental album featuring Trey’s incredible dectet.
Those hoping to hear songs written post-rehab will be disappointed: Most of the material on the album was written in the early 2000s, and this album was planned for release long before Trey’s current legal difficulties. Those who pre-order Horseshoe Curve will receive the Lucius Beebe EP which will include three live versions of songs from the album and two live tracks from Seis De Mayo featuring John Medeski and Jon Fishman.
This year marks the first summer in 16 years that Big Red will not be touring, but hopefully Big Red will come out of hiding to promote the new album. Currently an appearance on NBC’s Live From The Peacock Room is the only gig we can find on Anastasio’s schedule.
The full press release for the album follows after the jump…
