Wednesday Intermezzo

From the extensive Over Before It Started files, it now appears the upcoming Van Halen 2.0 tour will not proceed as planned. Hey, at least this one lasted longer than the last reunion. At this point, we’d sooner pay to see these bat-shit crazies fight to the near-death on Pay-Per-View than play an actual show. […]

Luke Doucet: Broken (and other rogue states)

Trying to find an innovative artist in the current country music scene is akin to searching for an honest politician. That makes it all the more exciting when a talent like Luke Doucet rises above the crowd. With Broken (and other rogue states), Doucet delivers 13 tracks of liquored-up heartache – hardly new subject matter for country music – each resonating with a pained beauty that instantly engages the listener.

MMJ Head Under the Sea for Prom

Want to see Jim James in a powder-blue tuxedo? Head on down to Athens…

MMJ Prom

MMJ can really use a copy editor, but this sounds like an incredible event:

For all of you who missed your prom back in 1956 or 1986 or 2006 for that matter, we will be hosting the 1st annual MMJ 2 night prom, March 6th and 7th, at the fabulous, prom-ready, 40 watt club in Athens! The first time we walked thru those hallowed 40 Watt doors we said to ourselves, “this place looks perfect for a prom!” And now the dream will be a reality. The theme is a futuristic/retro under the sea vibe – costumes (tuxes, suits, robots, mermaid and lobster costumes, anything prom/ocean related) are not only encouraged – they are MANDATORY!!! NO ONE will be admitted without proper attire!** There will be cake, balloons, fishnets, classic cars, chaperones, spankings, and a whole lotta shakin goin on – 2007 style upin this bitch ya’ll. Come prepared to dance the night away, and make up for all the proms you missed…

Read on after the jump for an unconfirmed special guest (via Deputy Girard)…

Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Rail-Thin Frontman Edition

So I wanna post…some vids on the face of today…and then they’ll paint it. Let’s lead off with Blind Melon’s Shannon Hoon hopping on stage with Guns N’ Roses in Chicago back in 1992 for a rousing rendition of Don’t Cry. This video is simply amazing, and I’m left wondering why Axl and Hoon never […]

Morning Listening: SugarMegs SugarGems

Alphabetically, I find it damn near impossible to even get into the Cs each time I call up the SugarMegs streaming archive. Those awesome fuckers host so many amazing shows on their site that unless I scroll down blindly or search for something specifically, I can never make it past the As and the Bs. So don’t fight it, me thinks. […]
