20 years ago today (6/14/04), the Beastie Boys released their sixth studio album, To the 5 Boroughs. After a short hiatus after the release of Hello Nasty in 1998, The Beastie Boys returned in 2004 with this love letter dedicated to the Beastie’s home in New York City, which can be heard as a return to form. The hip-hop-heavy outing had the trio rhyming over nimble yet neck-breaking drums that were more akin to their 1986 classic than the live instrumentation of their run in the 90s.
