25 years ago today (10/6/98), Manu Chao released his debut album Clandestino. It blends a variety of musical genres including reggae, Latin, and electronic music, and features lyrics in both Spanish and French. The album’s title track, “Clandestino,” became a hit and helped to establish Chao as a solo artist. Clandestino is a politically charged album, with many of its songs addressing issues such as immigration, poverty, and globalization, while the album was ranked 469 in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2020.
