25 years ago today (2/23/99), The Roots released their fourth studio album Things Fall Apart. Combining the band’s conscious lyricism with electrifying live instrumentation, the album not only solidified The Roots’ status as one of hip-hop’s most respected acts but also had a significant impact on the genre as a whole. Following this release, The Roots’ following would grow significantly as the aughts would have them playing the biggest of festival stages.
