35 Years Ago Today – XTC Released ‘Oranges and Lemons’ Album

35 years ago today (2/27/89), XTC released their 11th studio album and the second double album Oranges and Lemons. Always too quirky for the mainstream, XTC’s discography is essential listening for those who dig clever and catchy songwriting. Mixing the band’s pop and psychedelic influences, with catchy and clever lyrics, Oranges and Lemons remains by many the last great XTC album as some of the standout tracks include “The Mayor of Simpleton,” “King for a Day,” and “The Loving.” Check out the video for “Mayor of Simpleton”
