30 Years Ago Today – Dinosaur Jr. Released Sixth Album ‘Without A Sound’

Thirty years ago today (8/23/94), Dinosaur Jr. released their sixth studio album Without a Sound. Regarded as a transitional album, Dinosur Jr. was moving from their punk roots to a more mainstream alternative sound, as evidenced by the catchy lead single Feel the Pain.” Without a Sound will rarely make any Dinosaur Jr. fans’ top-five album list, but it remains a fun listen and serves as a cool touchstone of J Mascis’ musical imagination, even if the album wasn’t his best. Check out the band without Murph and Lou Barlow during this period, performing “Feel The Pain” on Letterman in 1994.
