30 years ago today (8/2), Australian rockers Midnight Oil released their sixth, most commercially successful and critically acclaimed studio LP Diesel and Dust. The album is a concept album about the struggles of Indigenous Australians and environmental causes, issues important to the band. In October 2010 it was listed at No. 1 in the book 100 Best Australian Albums. Check out the song and video for “Beds Are Burning” from the LP, where noted bald lead singer Peter Garrett lends his herky jerky dancing to tape, which is usually the first thing we think of when reminiscing about Midnight Oil.
