30 Years Ago Today – Paul Weller Releases ‘Wild Wood’ Album

30 years ago today (9/6/93), Paul Weller released his second solo album Wild Wood. The album is considered by many to be The Modfather’s finest work outside The Jam and The Style Council reaching number two on the UK Albums Chart and achieving platinum certification: it was also nominated for the Mercury in 1994. Embracing a more folk and acoustic-driven sound, Wild Wood set the course for British rock in the later part of the decade where Blur and Pulp would fashion that sound out into more decorated colors. Watch Weller perform the guitar-heavy “Sunflower” off Wild Wood on Jools Holland in 1993 – making it sound like this could be a Blind Faith lost song.
