30 Years Ago Today- Steve Earle Releases ‘Copperhead Road’ His “First Rock Record” (Watch “Copperhead Road” Official Video)

30 years ago today (10/17/88), Steve Earle released his third album Copperhead Road. The album is often referred to as Earle’s first “rock record” following his debut album 1986’s Guitar Town and 1987’s Exit O. Earle himself calls it the world’s first blend of heavy metal and bluegrass, and the January 26, 1989 review of the album by Rolling Stone suggested that the style be called “power twang. Watch Earle in his long hair glory in the official video for the title track.
