Happy 71st birthday today to Bob Weir, whose musical accomplishments and resume need not be rehashed. Always the “kid” of the Grateful Dead, Bobby has turned 70 and has aged as well as they come, with a taste of poignancy and prolificacy in this musical chapter of his career with Dead and Company and 2016’s solo album Blue Mountain. With newfound collaborations with indie artists and his mission of performing the Dead songbook for all to hear, Weir is one of Americana’s most vital ambassadors. Let’s watch Bobby in his short shorts take on “New Minglewood Blues” in Anaheim ’87.
