30 years ago today (1/24/95), Van Halen released Balance, their tenth album and one of their more forgettable after Van Halen III and A Different Kind Of Truth. This would be the final studio album featuring Sammy Hagar on lead vocals before his departure, as the band would start to show friction as the musical tide turned towards a dirtier alt-rock sound. Balance featured darker, introspective themes compared to previous efforts and featured some of Eddie Van Halen’s most emotional playing while exploring themes like struggle, introspection, and personal turmoil. Watch the video for the first single, “Don’t Tell Me) What Love Can Do.”
