35 years ago today (4/18/87), MTV debuted the first episode of the weekly show Headbangers Ball. Appearing late on Saturday nights, the show reached its popularity in the early 90s when Riki Rachtman served as host and each week the host would be in the studio or on the road interviewing rock’s heaviest acts. The show would change up some as leather made way to jeans and t-shirts in the 90’s and alt-rock became more of the show’s focus- eventually, Headbanger’s Ball went into retirement in 1995.
