45 years ago today (5/21/71), Marvin Gaye released his most critically acclaimed LP ‘Whats Going On.‘ Gaye was determined to break away from Motown’s pop formula and address current social issues. What’s Going On was the first album on which Motown Records’ main studio band, the group of session musicians known as the Funk Brothers, received an official credit. Check out Gaye performing the title track live in ’83.
